Púrpura Móvil is a reading promotion and cultural participation initiative that transforms an adapted vehicle into a mobile library service for coastal communities throughout the Tarapacá region.

Discover our main areas of action
We develop a diverse programme of activities designed to bring reading, writing, and oral communication closer to people of different ages, backgrounds, and experiences. Each gathering seeks to create safe and welcoming spaces for participation, learning, and reflection, strengthening the relationship between books, communities, and their territories.

We coordinate public talks and educational sessions for schools, community organisations, cultural groups, and the general public in educational institutions, libraries, community centres, and cultural venues.
Participatory experiences that use books, stories, and narratives as starting points for conversation, reflection, and the exchange of experiences among children, young people, adults, older adults, and intergenerational groups.

Why was this project created?
The communities of Chanavayita, Pisagua, and Caleta San Marcos face significant challenges associated with their geographical distance from the region’s main cultural centres.
Access to libraries, reading spaces, and regular cultural programming remains limited, particularly for children, young people, older adults, and people with disabilities.
Púrpura Móvil was created to help reduce these inequalities through a strategy centred on territorial access, inclusion, and reading facilitation, bringing opportunities for learning and cultural participation to communities that have historically remained distant from permanent cultural services.
Expanding Access to reading in Tarapacá's coastal communities
